1. What do Global Village Purchases do for this world…….

- Increase economic opportunity for women in developing countries, and to support local and international non-profit organizations that fight human trafficking in Southeast Asia.

- Employ disadvantaged people in developing countries as well as small family producers. By bringing their crafts to Western markets, we can expand their access to sustainable income.

- Help victims of human trafficking by donating a portion of our profits to local and international non-profit organizations working in this arena. Human trafficking is a multi-billion dollar illegal trade affecting millions of people every year. We believe that one way to counteract this global issue is to increase access to economic opportunity in the most affected areas.

2. Global Village Purchases also supports the Goutte D’eau

- Goutte D’eau was established as a NGO in 1997 to assist vulnerable children and their families throughout Cambodia. In 1999, they implemented a project aimed at rehabilitating children using substances and at reintegrating former trafficking victims in the city of Poipet, bordering Thailand. GENL works to prevent child abuse, substance abuse and child trafficking, rehabilitate under age substance abusers and traumatized children, integrate neglected children into non-formal (day care, vocational training) and formal education (Public School), and reintegrate neglected, trafficked, abused or run away children into their communities.

3. When you earn Global Village Purchase Points (gvp²) you support….

- Cambodian Women’s Crisis Center (CWCC) “CWCC’s vision is to eliminate violence against women, such as trafficking, rape and domestic violence, in order to achieve peace, development and happiness for all.”

- Donations made by Malia Designs, the manufacturers of many products we sale, are used to construct a shelter for women and children in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Malia Designs, in partnership with the CWCC, is committed to eradicate violence against women and trafficking of girls.

4. Global Village Purchases are responsible purchases. The manufacturers of gvp² qualifying products are often members of the FAIR TRADE FEDERATION.

Mission
The Fair Trade Federation is the trade association that strengthens and promotes North American organizations fully committed to fair trade. The Federation is part of the global fair trade movement, building equitable and sustainable trading partnerships and creating opportunities to alleviate poverty. The Federation's values guide our work to create a just and sustainable economic system.

Long-Term Vision
The Federation envisions a just and sustainable global economic system in which purchasing and production choices are made with concern for the well-being of people and the environment, creating a world where all people have viable economic options to meet their own needs.  We seek to alleviate poverty by continually and significantly expanding the practice of trade that values the labor and dignity of all people.

History

The Fair Trade Federation traces its roots to the late 1970s when individual alternative trade organizations began holding yearly conferences for groups working in fair trade. In 1994, the group incorporated formally as the North American Alterative Trade Organization (NAATO); and, the following year, changed its named to the Fair Trade Federation. Since then, FTF has focused on supporting fully committed businesses in order to expand markets for artisans and farmers around the world. The Federation has been an active members of the World Fair Trade Organization (formerly IFAT) for many years.

Green America’s work combines four powerful strategies:
